The Week That Was

The Washington Redskins have no heart. That was the biggest thing I came away with after their embarrassing loss to the Detroit Lions yesterday. If they had heart they would have been pissed off after hearing how terrible they were all last week, despite getting a win. I expected to see a team that was angry that it was widely believed they would be the team to lose to the Lions. Instead I saw a team that really didn't give a crap, led by a head coach that is in way over his head. The Redskins next 3 games are against teams that are a combined 0-9. The sad thing is I could see the Redskins losing all three of those. The team's offense is deplorable once inside the 20, the defense looks soft, especially the secondary. Not much else can be said, the Redskins are currently one of the worst teams in the league. They let a rookie QB carve them up, they let a team that hadn't won in 19 games go 99 yards on them. Blargh.

The San Francisco 49ers suffered a heart breaking loss to Minnesota, but still should feel pretty good about themselves. Despite losing star RB Frank Gore on the first play of the game, the Niners hung in, with QB Shaun Hill and TE Vernon Davis connecting on a couple of touchdowns. Coach Mike Singletary is the antithesis of Jim Zorn. You can see his personality taking shape on the 49ers, the intensity, the will to win, and the belief that losing is unacceptable.

The Miami Dolphins dropped to 0-3 with a loss at San Diego, and also lost starting QB Chad Pennington. Pennington is expected to be out next week, in what is a must win game for the Dolphins. It is hard to tell if the Dolphins are really 0-3 bad, or if their brutal schedule is the main culprit.

In college football the hobbled Notre Dame Fighting Irish survived Purdue to improve to 3-1. QB Jimmy Clausen shared time with backup QB Dayne Crist. However, with Purdue up 21-17, Clausen was called on to lead the winning drive and did just that. It wasn't always pretty but it was a good road win, especially with the Irish missing so many key pieces on offense. The Nebraska Cornhuskers took out their frustration on Louisiana-Lafayette, destroying them 55-0. The Cornhuskers get this weekend off, then have a huge road game on Thursday night at Missouri.

Oh and one word for the Miami Hurricanes.

FRAUDS
