Cram Session - Week 2

The game everyone is talking about this weekend is USC traveling to the Shoe to take on Ohio State. That should be a fun game for about the first 10 minutes, but the best game of the weekend is Notre Dame at Michigan. Both schools had confidence inspiring wins last weekend, providing this game with the luster it deserves. The rest of the Top 25 schedule is pretty week as most teams schedule cream puffs before getting into their conference schedules.

Troy (0-1) at #1 Florida (1-0)

Florida's embarrassing non-conference slate continues. Starters will be done by the 3rd quarter.

Prediction: Florida 52, Troy 17

#2 Texas (1-0) at Wyoming (1-0)

I give Texas props for the fact that they will travel to some strange places for road games. This won't be a tough test, Wyoming only beat Weber State by a touchdown at home last week.

Prediction: Texas 55, Wyoming 21

#3 USC (1-0) at #8 Ohio State (1-0)

This is Ohio State's shot at revenge after last season's debacle at USC. Before last week I thought they had a good chance, especially with USC sending a freshman, QB Matt Barkley to the Shoe. Then I saw Ohio State struggle mightily at home against Navy. Not that Navy is a bad team, in fact, they are quite underrated. However, they are nowhere near the level of talent that USC possesses. I think this one could get ugly pretty fast.

Prediction: USC 31, Ohio State 14

Florida International (0-0) at #4 Alabama (1-0)

Alabama dominated the overrated Virginia Tech Hokies just as I suspected. As for this game, do I even need to say anything?

Prediction: Alabama 44, Florida International 13

Houston (1-0) at #5 Oklahoma State (1-0)

This could be a tougher game for the Cowboys than people think. Houston can score some points and I don't think they will be a push over. The Cowboys will be feeling pretty good about themselves after beating Georgia last week, and may come out a little flat.

Prediction: Oklahoma State 34, Houston 24

Syracuse (0-1) at #7 Penn State (1-0)

Syracuse QB Greg Paulus played decent in his first game, except for a backbreaking interception in OT. However, that game was against Minnesota and in the friendly confines of the Carrier Dome. Things are going to get ugly real fast at for him at Happy Valley.

Prediction: Penn State 42, Syracuse 10

#9 BYU (1-0) at Tulane (0-1)

BYU is riding high after their upset of Choklahoma in Dallas. A lot of people are saying they wouldn't have won the game if Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford had played the entire way. That may be true, but it wasn't like the Sooners were killing BYU before Bradford left. I think BYU will suffer a bit of a letdown, but Tulane is terrible.

Prediction: BYU 34, Tulane 16

Eastern Washington (1-0) at #10 California (1-0)

Cal blasted pathetic ACC team Maryland at home, maybe Eastern Washington can give them more of a struggle.

Prediction: California 48, Eastern Washington 10

Vanderbilt (1-0, 0-0) at #11 LSU (1-0, 0-0)

SEC play kicks off this weekend with one of the games being Vanderbilt traveling to Baton Rouge. LSU struggled against Washington, but I think that was more because Washington is better than their zero win Ty Willingham squad from last year. If LSU struggles at home with Vandy, then it might be time to worry.

Prediction: LSU 27, Vanderbilt 13

Miami (Ohio) (0-1) at #12 Boise State (1-0)

Boise State dominated Oregon in front of the nation last Thursday. Well aside from one of their players getting knocked the f out. This should be another dominating performance.

Prediction: Boise State 49, Miami (Ohio) 9

Idaho State (0-1) at #13 Oklahoma (0-1)

Sooners QB Landry Jones makes his start. The offensive line still needs time to gel for the Sooners and this is the kind of practice game that can help them.

Prediction: Oklahoma 48, Idaho State 6

Marshall (1-0) at #14 Virginia Tech (0-1)

The Hokies were outclassed by Bama last weekend, with only a kickoff return making the score look deceivingly close. Marshall had all they could handle from Southern Illinois, so they are almost on par with an ACC team. Tech loves to beat up on the little guys.

Prediction: Virginia Tech 28, Marshall 10

#16 TCU (0-0) at Virginia (0-1)

Last weekend, Virginia lost at home to William and Mary. Bahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahah. At least getting stomped by TCU is expected.

Prediction: TCU 38, Virginia 15

#17 Utah (1-0) at San Jose State (0-1)

San Jose State was drilled by USC last weekend but since this game is at home I think they can give the Utes a battle.

Prediction: Utah 30, San Jose State 23

#18 Notre Dame (1-0) at Michigan (1-0)

Finally, the game of the weekend. Notre Dame looked almost perfect against Nevada. Sure, Nevada isn't that great but Notre Dame made them look horrendous. The defense looked great and the offense was firing on all cylinders. I am excited but that could all change if the Irish lay an egg at Michigan. The Big House doesn't intimidate me and I don't think it will intimidate an older Irish team. The last time a lot of these players played there was two years ago and they were freshman and sophomores. Michigan shut them out and outclassed Notre Dame in every way. I think that sour taste still remains for a lot of the Notre Dame players. I think they come out aggressive, and put the rest of the college football nation on notice with a strong win.

Prediction: Notre Dame 31, Michigan 21

#19 North Carolina (1-0) at Connecticut (1-0)

For some reason I have a gut feeling that UCONN could pull off the upset. I am not sold on the Tar Heels, probably has to do with their conference affiliation.

Prediction: Connecticut 28, North Carolina 27

South Carolina (1-0) at #21 Georgia (0-1)

Looks like I completely underestimated the losses of Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno for the Bulldogs. After an impressive first drive against Oklahoma State, the offense fell apart. South Carolina's offense looked like crap at NC State, we could have another 3-2 game on our hands here.

Prediction: Georgia 9, South Carolina 6

Arkansas State (1-0) at #22 Nebraska (1-0)

The Huskers clobbered Florida Atlantic in Week 1 and had some positive signs. RB Roy Helu Jr. looked real good and seems to be solidifying himself as the number one RB. QB Zac Lee had an encouraging first start to his career. The defense's play was a little disconcerting. They only allowed 3 points but also gave up 358 yards of offense to Florida Atlantic. This is the Huskers last tune up before they travel to Blacksburg.

Prediction: Nebraska 34, Arkansas State 17

Southeast Missouri State (1-0) at #23 Cincinnati (1-0)

Cincinnati quickly put to rest any thoughts that Rutgers might be good this season, blowing them out on their home field on Monday. Most impressive in that game was Bearcats QB Tony Pick, who threw for 3 TDs and 362 yards. Southeast Missouri State will get quite the rude awakening from playing Quincy (who?) last weekend to the Bearcats this weekend.

Prediction: Cincinnati 44, Southeast Missouri State 12

#24 Kansas (1-0) at UTEP (0-1)

Triston, if you read this, leave something in the comments about this game. I have no idea what to say.

Prediction: Kansas 42, UTEP 21

Bowling Green (1-0) at #25 Missouri (1-0)

Missouri crushed some people's sleeper team, Illinois last week, earning them a spot in the Top 25. Looking at the Tigers schedule, they should be 4-0 when they host Nebraska in prime time on Thursday night.

Prediction: Missouri 30, Bowling Green 10
