The Hail Mary - Week 9

Happy Halloween! There are some great games this weekend in the NFL which will make Sunday a perfect day to recover from all of the Halloween partying that will be done on Friday and Saturday.

Games That I Will Be Watching

Green Bay (4-3) at Tennessee (7-0)

A lot of people are calling this a let down game for the Titans after they pumped themselves up for the Colts on Monday night. They may suffer a letdown in the beginning but the home field mixed with them just being better than the Packers will keep them unbeaten.

Prediction: Tennessee 24, Green Bay 16

Dallas (5-3) at New York Giants (6-1)

I expect this to be an absolute demolition of the Cowboys by the Giants. Brad Johnson can't move and will be at the mercy of the Giants pass rush. The Cowboys can put in backup Brooks Bollinger and he may avoid the pass rush but he is a lousy QB and will make mistakes.

Prediction: New York Giants 28, Dallas 13

New England (5-2) at Indianapolis (3-4)

This game is not nearly as big as it has been the last 5 or 6 years. The Patriots starting QB for this one is Matt Cassell and the Colts find themselves under .500. The more desperate team will win.

Prediction: Indianapolis 24, New England 17

Pittsburgh (5-2) at Washington (6-2)

It is really surprising to me that so far every pundit has predicted a Redskins victory in this one. The point I keep hearing is the Steelers poor offensive line will cost them this game. I am guessing those people haven't actually watched the Redskins play this year. If they had they would know that the Skins can't generate a pass rush to save their lives, so the Steelers biggest weakness likely won't be a factor. I think the Steelers defense dominates this one.

Prediction: Pittsburgh 21, Washington 13

The Rest of Week 9

New York Jets (4-3) at Buffalo (5-2)

Brett Favre is playing like the Favre of 06' and the Bills are virtually unbeatable at home.

Prediction: Buffalo 27, New York Jets 19

Detroit (0-7) at Chicago (4-3)

This one will likely get ugly.

Prediction: Chicago 35, Detroit 10

Jacksonville (3-4) at Cincinnati (0-8)

TJ Houshmanzadeh aimed high and predicted 2 wins for the Bengals this year. Hahahhahahahah. How does Marvin Lewis still have a job?

Prediction: Jacksonville 31, Cincinnati 14

Baltimore (4-3) at Cleveland (3-4)

The Browns were overhyped but that win in Jacksonville was impressive and their season isn't lost yet.

Prediction: Cleveland 20, Baltimore 18

Tampa Bay (5-3) at Kansas City (1-6)

Tampa Bay lost a game to the Cowboys that they should have won. Kansas City lost a game to the Jets that they should have won. Chuckie, AKA John Gruden has to win on Halloween weekend.

Prediction: Tampa Bay 28, Kansas City 12

Arizona (4-3) at St. Louis (2-5)

Rams interim coach Jim Haslett has definitely made the Rams competitive but I think the Cardinals finally win a game away from the west coast.

Prediction: Arizona 35, St. Louis 24

Houston (3-4) at Minnesota (3-4)

Three straight wins have resuscitated the Texans hopes at a successful season. The Vikings need this one and more specifically their coach Brad Childress needs this one.

Prediction: Minnesota 19, Houston 16

Miami (3-4) at Denver (4-3)

The Dolphins are the sexy pick here but I think the home field advantage will carry the Broncos.

Prediction: Denver 31, Miami 26

Atlanta (4-3) at Oakland (2-5)

I'm calling the upset here, the Black Hole will envelope Falcons QB Matt Ryan.

Prediction: Oakland 20, Atlanta 19

Philadelphia (4-3) at Seattle (2-5)

Not too long ago Seattle was an almost impossible place to win. However, this Seahawks team has been decimated by injuries and even their 12th man can't carry them.

Prediction: Philadelphia 34, Seattle 17

Cram Session - Week 10

Most of the country will be focused on the World's Largest Cocktail Party in Jacksonville, FL between the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs, or the battle of Texas between the #1 Texas Longhorns and the #7 Texas Tech Red Raiders. However, the biggest game of the weekend to me is what used to be the best rivalry in all of college football, Oklahoma/Nebraska.

Games That Matter to Me That May Not Matter To You

Nebraska (5-3, 2-2) at #4 Oklahoma (7-1, 3-1)

Sticking this game here rather than in the Top 25 because it seems that to most people this game doesn't matter anymore. Can't really fault anyone for that, Nebraska hasn't been a major program in 7 years and Oklahoma has dominated the rivalry as of late. In the 70's and 80's back when the Big 12 was the Big 8 these two played each other every year and almost every year an Orange Bowl berth was at stake. For the Cornhuskers this game will be a matter of pride and a victory could propel the program back to becoming big time again. For Oklahoma it is about survival and keeping alive their slim national title hopes. I think the Huskers will keep this closer than people think but will be unable to pull off the upset.

Prediction: Oklahoma 41, Nebraska 27

Pittsburgh (5-2) at Notre Dame (5-2)

Notre Dame avoided a letdown last week and crushed Washington while Pittsburgh waited a week longer than I expected and played themselves out of the Top 25. Notre Dame needs to win this game to again quiet the critics who say they have gotten off to a good start based on a subpar schedule. Notre Dame is undefeated at home this year and I believe that continues and hopefully finally vaults them into the Top 25.

Prediction: Notre Dame 34, Pittsburgh 28

#1 Texas (8-0, 4-0) at #7 Texas Tech (8-0, 4-0)

Another week, another huge challenge for Texas. This time they have to go on the road and play one of their state rivals, the Red Raiders. More people are predicting Texas to finally fall but QB Colt McCoy get's the job done.

Prediction: Texas 44, Texas Tech 38

Arkansas State (4-3) at #2 Alabama (8-0)

Alabama get's a virtual bye week against Arkansas State.

Prediction: Alabama 30, Arkansas State 13

Washington (0-7, 0-4) at #5 USC (6-1, 4-1)

I will lay off Ty Willingham now that he has been fired. USC won't be so kind.

Prediction: USC 66, Washington 7

#8 Florida (6-1, 4-1) vs. #6 Georgia (7-1, 4-1)

Florida is the popular pick here with the theory being the Gators will be looking for revenge after Georgia's team celebration last year. Once the game starts though that won't mean anything and Knowshown Moreno will run all over the Gators.

Prediction: Georgia 31, Florida 27

Iowa State (2-6, 0-4) at #9 Oklahoma State (7-1, 3-1)

Oklahoma State earned a lot of respect with the effort they put forth at Texas last week. They can exert half that effort this week and still win.

Prediction: Oklahoma State 34, Iowa State 12

#10 Utah (8-0, 4-0) at New Mexico (4-5, 2-3)

Utah is just biding its time until they play BYU and TCU.

Prediction: Utah 31, New Mexico 9

#11 Boise State (7-0, 3-0) at New Mexico State (3-4, 1-2)

See above. Boise State is just biding its time until they play Fresno State.

Prediction: Boise State 31, New Mexico State 14

#13 TCU (8-1, 5-0) at UNLV (3-5, 0-4)

Another easy win for this potential BCS buster.

Prediction: TCU 48, UNLV 21

#14 Missouri (6-2, 2-2) at Baylor (3-5, 1-3)

Missouri clobbered Colorado and I forsee a similar fate for Baylor.

Prediction: Missouri 53, Baylor 27

#15 Florida State (6-1, 3-1) at Georgia Tech (6-2, 3-2)

The Seminoles have quietly moved up in the polls but this road test will be too much for them.

Prediction: Georgia Tech 28, Florida State 27

Northwestern (6-2, 2-2) at #17 Minnesota (7-1, 3-1)

One way to have an amazing turnaround like the Golden Gophers are having is to not have to play either Penn State or Ohio State.

Prediction: Minnesota 31, Northwestern 24

#18 Tulsa (8-0) at Arkansas (3-5)

Not often you will see a team from a non-BCS conference favored on the road against an SEC team. Arkansas keeps it interesting but Tulsa wins and further cements that the Big 12 is better than the SEC.

Prediction: Tulsa 38, Arksanas 31

Tulane (2-5) at #19 LSU (5-2)

LSU and more specifically their defense could use a break from the SEC.

Prediction: LSU 35, Tulane 17

#20 BYU (7-1, 3-1) at Colorado State (4-4, 2-2)

It has been a rough couple weeks for BYU and Colorado State has been tough at home. I smell upset.

Prediction: Colorado State 17, BYU 14

Wisconsin (4-4, 1-4) at #21 Michigan State (7-2, 4-1)

The Spartans exorcised their Michigan Wolverine demons but this is exactly the kind of game Michigan State has been prone to losing for the past 10 years.

Prediction: Wisconsin 28, Michigan State 20

#23 South Florida (6-2, 1-2) at Cincinnati (5-2, 1-1)

Upset Thursday will pounce on the Bulls.

Prediction: Cincinnati 23, South Florida 20

#24 Oregon (6-2, 4-1) at California (5-2, 3-1)

Tough game for Oregon as Cal is a good home team. Cal upsets Oregon and gains some confidence heading into next week's game at USC.

Prediction: California 45, Oregon 31

West Virginia (5-2, 2-0) at #25 Connecticut (6-2, 2-1)

Connecticut doesn't impress me, West Virginia doesn't impress me much either but QB Pat White will carry the Moutaineers to their first road win under coach Bill Stewart

Prediction: West Virginia 24, Connecticut 17

The Week That Was

The picture to the right says it all. Notre Dame went to Washington and did exactly what they were supposed to do, beat the ever living crap out of a horrible team. Ty Willingham is a Dead Man Walking at Washington and this time the media can't come up with conspiracies about why he was fired. Notre Dame is now 5-2 and has a home game against Pittsburgh this Saturday. Notre Dame is making great strides this year and Charlie is proving all the haters wrong.

Nebraska held off a feisty Baylor team to improve to 5-3. A win was essential for the Huskers as now the schedule toughens up again in the best conference in college football, the Big 12.

In the NFL, the Washington Redskins made it interesting like they always do but were able to keep the Detroit Lions winless. It wasn't a pretty win and certainly the Redskins play needs to improve but if anyone had told the people in Washington that the Skins would be 6-2 at the halfway point they would have taken it in a heartbeat. The other big story in the NFL was the Dallas Cowboys getting a must win at home against the Tampa Bay Bucs. The Cowboys defense finally stepped up and QB Brad Johnson avoided costly turnovers. The Cowboys travel to New York on Sunday where I suspect they will receive quite the beating.

The Philadelphia Phillies are just one win away from knocking off the Tampa Bay Rays. The story of the series has been the inability of the Rays Evan Longoria or Carlos Pena to even get a hit. I still think the Rays win tonight to make Philly fans nervous but the Phillies fulfill my prediction and close out the Rays in Game 6 and make all the bandwagon Rays fans go home sad.

The Hail Mary - Week 8

When Monday Night Football moved to ESPN it was to signal the end of the Monday Night game being the premiere game of the week. That title was supposed to shift to Sunday Night Football. However, through 8 weeks of the season ESPN has been getting some very good games for Monday nights. That is no different this week as the Indianapolis Colts travel to Tennessee to take on the Titans. A loss for the Colts and their stranglehold on the AFC South will be finished, a win and all those "The Colts are back!" stories will be copy and pasted from 2 weeks ago.

Games That I Will Be Watching

Washington (5-2) at Detroit (0-6)

Washington's string of cupcakes ends this weekend. A loss here would be completely unacceptable and a letdown wouldn't be the excuse. After overlooking the Rams two weeks ago the Redskins should know to not overlook anyone. Since they are incapable of blowing anyone out the Lions will keep this relatively close.

Prediction: Washington 28, Detroit 21

New York Giants (5-1) at Pittsburgh (5-1)

Really looking forward to this one. Two physical and exceptional teams going head to head. At first I was leaning Pittsburgh but the more I think about it the more I believe that Pittsburgh's offensive line will be incapable of slowing down the Giants pass rush.

Prediction: New York Giants 21, Pittsburgh 18

Indianapolis (3-3) at Tennessee (6-0)

People are trying to downgrade the Titans 6-0 start by saying they haven't played anyone. I don't buy that, the Titans offense won't scare anyone but their defense will. People keep waiting for the Colts of old to show up but I don't see it happening this year. Titans take the AFC South with this win.

Prediction: Tennessee 20, Indianapolis 14

The Rest of Week 8

Tampa Bay (5-2) at Dallas (4-3)

This my stone cold lock of the week. Brad Johnson is going to get pulverized by the menacing Buccaneers pass rush and Jeff Garcia's play will make all Bucs fans gay (happy of course).

Prediction: Tampa Bay 27, Dallas 17

Buffalo (5-1) at Miami (2-4)

The "Wildcat" offense cooled considerably last week and after a 2 week hiatus the Dolphins are back to being lousy.

Prediction: Buffalo 16, Miami 13

St. Louis (2-4) at New England (4-2)

It can't be denied, Rams interim coach Jim Haslett has definitely made a difference these last two games. I think the Rams hang with Patriots but fall in the end.

Prediction: New England 24, St. Louis 20

San Diego (3-4) at New Orleans (3-4)

This game is in London and hopefully the pitch will be in better shape this year for the footballers. The Chargers better mark Drew Brees or they will be saying "bollocks" and "oy" on the way home to San Diego.

Prediction: San Diego 31, New Orleans 24

Kansas City (1-5) at New York Jets (3-3)

I can't even tell if Kansas City is trying anymore. I called Brett Favre to give him advice on how to beat the Chiefs. It was simple, I told him, show up.

Prediction: New York Jets 24, Kansas City 10

Atlanta (4-2) at Philadelphia (3-3)

Atlanta still can't get any respect, they are 5 point underdogs despite having the better record. However, I guess Vegas isn't too far off.

Prediction: Philadelphia 26, Atlanta 22

Arizona (4-2) at Carolina (5-2)

Let's see, Arizona hates traveling to the other side of the country. Carolina is 4-0 at home, pretty easy pick.

Prediction: Carolina 31, Arizona 17

Oakland (2-4) at Baltimore (3-3)

Joe Flacco has 2 TDs and 7 INTs, good thing the Ravens defense is so good.

Prediction: Baltimore 21, Oakland 3

Cincinnati (0-7) at Houston (2-4)

Hey, maybe I wasn't so far off on Houston being my sleeper team this year. Cincinnati better start winning if they are going to hit my projection of them winning 4 games this year. Oh and Chad Johnson, I am starting you this weekend, try to score a TD and not wait until I bench you, thanks.

Prediction: Houston 26, Cincinnati 13

Cleveland (2-4) at Jacksonville (3-3)

Old AFC Central rivals reunite. Jacksonville has gotten through the tough portion of the schedule, now they start to resemble the team I expected to see this year.

Prediction: Jacksonville 19, Cleveland 16

Seattle (1-5) at San Francisco (2-5)

Former 49ers coach Mike Nolan had to go. I was happy to see the team replace him with Hall of Famer Mike Singletary. I really think he can motivate this team and hopefully get the defense to start performing. The Niners will play inspired football and sweep the season series with the Seahawks.

Prediction: San Francisco 20, Seattle 13

Bonus:

Local soccer team Ron Burgundy earned a huge 1-0 victory over Division 3 rival Brass Monkey on Tuesday night in front of a standing room only crowd of 10. Despite many saves by the Brass Monkey keeper as well as the post, Burgundy persevered and eventually earned a penalty kick. Drew Verbel beat the goalie and now Burgundy sits 4 points ahead of Monkey for 1st place. Burgundy's next game is Monday night against Purple Cobras, whom they tied 1-1 earlier this year.

Cram Session - Week 9

There is a huge Big Ten battle this weekend between #3 Penn State and #9 Ohio State that will have most college football fans attention. Not for me though. The biggest game of the week to me is when Notre Dame travels to take on Ty Willingham's winless Washington Huskies.

Games That Matter to Me That May Not Matter to You

Notre Dame (4-2) at Washington (0-6)

Notre Dame has to win this game. Not because it would be their first road win of the year, and also not because they should win the game since Washington is awful. They have to win this game because Ty Willingham coaches the Huskies. Some may find my hate for Willingham to be unreasonable but it isn't. It has grown from years of having to listen to people try to say that Willingham was unjustly fired by the Irish. They point to the fact that he recruited Brady Quinn, Tom Zibikowski, Jeff Smarzijda as reasons for why Ty was such a great coach and should have kept his job. What they fail to point out is that for the two seasons he coached them they accomplished next to nothing. Charlie Weis came on board and instantly all three of those players became household names and much better players. Could the reason for that have been they had a better coach? In Ty's best year at Notre Dame was that because of his great coaching or was it because he won with players that previous head coach Bob Davie had recruited? Interesting that the argument doesn't work both ways. Putting that all aside if Ty was such a great coach why is Washington winless after six games? When Washington fires him it will be for the same reason Notre Dame fired him, he's just not that good a coach.

Prediction: Notre Dame 35, Washington 19

Baylor (3-4, 1-2) at Nebraska (4-3, 1-2)

Nebraska get's Baylor in what should be an easy home win. Nebraska needs this win to try to remain bowl eligible as their next two games are against ranked teams.

Prediction: Nebraska 48, Baylor 24

#6 Oklahoma State (7-0, 3-0) at #1 Texas (7-0, 3-0)

Everyone was picking Texas to lose to Missouri last week for some reason that is beyond me. Texas is legit.

Prediction: Texas 34, Oklahoma State 24

#2 Alabama (7-0, 4-0) at Tennessee (3-4, 1-3)

The last few weeks Alabama has come perilously close to being upset. Neyland Stadium is a tough place to win but Tennessee is too horrible.

Prediction: Alabama 20, Tennessee 17

#3 Penn State (8-0, 4-0) at #9 Ohio State (7-1, 4-0)

Definitely the Game of the Week. I have gone back and forth on this one but I think Penn State is good enough to win in Columbus.

#4 Oklahoma (6-1, 2-1) at Kansas State (4-3, 1-2)

Oklahoma rolls.

Prediction: Oklahoma 45, Kansas State 23

#5 USC (5-1, 3-1) at Arizona (5-2, 3-1)

People believe USC should be on upset alert. I disagree, USC will be ready for the fight the Wildcats will give them.

#7 Georgia (6-1, 3-1) at #13 LSU (5-1, 3-1)

I'm still not a believer in LSU, Georgia will squeak out a victory on the road.

#8 Texas Tech (7-0, 3-0) at #23 Kansas (5-2, 2-1)

Texas Tech is the team that should be on upset alert, Kansas ends their unbeaten season.

Prediction: Kansas 45, Texas Tech 42

Kentucky (5-2, 1-2) at #10 Florida (5-1, 3-1)

Kentucky will be game to give the Gators a battle in the Swamp but it won't be enough.

Prediction: Florida 27, Kentucky 17

#12 Boise State (6-0, 2-0) at San Jose State (5-2, 3-0)

Tough Friday night game for the Broncos as they meet fellow undefeated WAC team San Jose State. Boise State's bid at being a BCS buster will continue.

Wyoming (2-5, 0-4) at #14 TCU (7-1, 4-0)

Blowout city.

Prediction: TCU 50, Wyoming 12

Colorado (4-3, 1-2) at #15 Missouri (5-2, 1-2)

Missouri QB Chase Daniel's Heisman campaign may be finished but that won't stop him from putting up huge numbers against the Buffaloes.

Prediction: Missouri 41, Colorado 20

#16 South Florida (6-1, 1-1) at Louisville (4-2, 0-1)

Louisville has fallen off the college football relevancy map awful fast.

Prediction: South Florida 31, Louisville 28

Rutgers (2-5, 1-2) at #17 Pittsburgh (5-1, 2-0)

See above, just replace Rutgers with Louisville.

Prediction: Pittsburgh 35, Rutgers 17

Virginia (4-3, 2-1) at #18 Georgia Tech (6-1, 3-1)

Former Navy coach Paul Johnson is having success in his first year at the helm for the Yellow Jackets. Virginia has enjoyed a mini resurgence but I still think they are a bad road team.

Prediction: Georgia Tech 24, Virginia 10

UCF (2-4, 1-1) at #19 Tulsa (7-0, 4-0)

Tulsa is tearing up Conference USA, George O'Leary will likely want to keep this one off his resume.

Prediction: Tulsa 64, UCF 28

Eastern Michigan (2-6, 1-3) at #20 Ball State (7-0, 3-0)

Ball State could go undefeated and should be nowhere near a BCS game. Let them have the Pontiac Car Bowl or whatever it is.

Prediction: Ball State 28, Eastern Michigan 6

UNLV (3-4, 0-3) at #21 BYU (6-1, 2-1)

BYU is going to take out its frustrations on the Runnin Rebels.

Prediction: BYU 47, UNLV 13

#22 Northwestern (6-1, 2-1) at Indiana (2-5, 0-4)

At least Indiana fans have college basketball season to look forward to. Wait, no they don't, their college basketball team might be even worse this year.

Prediction: Northwestern 33, Indiana 21

#24 Minnesota (6-1, 2-1) at Purdue (2-5, 0-3)

Minnesota is enjoying quite the turnaround after winning just one game last year. Purdue coach Joe Tiller will likely end his career with a bowl less season.

Prediction: Minnesota 28, Purdue 25

Virginia Tech (5-2, 2-1) at #25 Florida State (5-1, 2-1)

Haven't picked many upsets this week and tempted to do so here but man that Hokie offense is terrible.

Prediction: Florida State 19, Virginia Tech 16

The Week That Was

Wow, the Dallas Cowboys aren't very good. Sure they didn't have Tony Romo but to lose at St. Louis by 20? Really? The team appears to be in complete disarray and the next 2 games, at home to 5-2 Tampa and at 5-1 New York, won't provide a respite. Trading for Roy E. Williams was a complete waste as they didn't solve the problems that are plaguing the Cowboys defense. I still think Dallas will recover and make the playoffs but I think it could be another year without a playoff win in Big D.

Attended the Redskins/Browns game at FedEx Field, it was an ugly game if you like offenses. We had a scoreless first half, and then the Redskins offense was able to muster two scoring drives. RB Clinton Portis continues to be a beast and is having his best year as a Redskin. The defense came up huge for the Skins, getting one goal line stand and then being just one play away from another. The defense does eventually need to start getting sacks and creating turnovers but for now it is working. Jason Campbell remains the only starting QB without an interception, which after 7 games is quite the accomplishment. The passing game has some work to do but at 5-2 the Redskins are in good shape and should hopefully not fall to the winless Lions in Detroit.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers ended a three game slide at Iowa State. The defense only gave up 7 points which while against the lousy Cyclones still inspires hope for Husker fans. I also went 3 for 3 in predicting ACC upsets, as Maryland, Virginia and Boston College all won at home against ranked ACC opponents. The first BCS standings were released with Texas at number one. The Longhorns host undefeated Oklahoma State this weekend. #3 Penn State has a huge road test at Ohio State this weekend, if they win this one then Penn State would be well on its way to playing for the national championship.

The Boston Red Sox nearly completed another miraculous comeback. Down 3 games to 1 and down 7-0 in the bottom of the 7th, the Sox miraculously came back to win that game, took Game 6 at Tampa but then had their magic run out in Game 7. People can argue back and forth about if the Sox had had Manny Ramierz than maybe they would have won. Either way I don't think it would have mattered, David Ortiz and Jason Varitek were largely ineffective, and the pitching was too atrocious in Games 2-5.

That means we are left with an uninspiring World Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Philadelphia Phillies. Philadelphia is looking for their first major sports championship in 25 years, while the Rays and their bandwagon fans think it's cool to be in the World Series. Tampa has been made the favorite but I like the Phillies to win the series in 6.

I had written a nice little blog post about my picks for this weekend's NFL games and then somehow it all erased. Question about Blogger, what good is the auto save feature if it doesn't actually save anything? Needless to say I am annoyed and don't have the time or energy to write all of this over again. So this week will be an abbreviated version of The Hail Mary. Next week will be back to normal, I promise.

The Big 12 once again takes center stage this weekend. The new #1 team in the nation, the Texas Longhorns host the #11 Missouri Tigers, while #4 Oklahoma hosts #16 Kansas. Could the Longhorns stay at #1 last just one week?

Notre Dame has a bye this week allowing them two weeks to prepare for Ty Willingham's losers, the Washington Huskies. Notre Dame would really only need one day to prepare for the Huskies but this will just mean the butt whooping will be even worse.

Games That Matter to Me That May Not Matter to You

Nebraska (3-3, 0-2) at Iowa State (2-4, 0-2)

Nebraska came oh so close to shocking Texas Tech in Lubbock last week before QB Joe Ganz was intercepted in OT trying to throw a pass out of bounds. I think their effort against the Red Raiders will inspire some confidence in the Cornhuskers. They need to be dominant against a poor Iowa State team. I think they answer the call.

#11 Missouri (5-1, 1-1) at #1 Texas (6-0, 2-0)

After Texas had defeated Oklahoma Saturday afternoon this was shaping up to be a nice #1 vs. #2 game. Then Missouri went and pissed it all away by losing at home to Oklahoma State. It reminded me of how they squandered their opportunity to play for the national championship last year when they got steamrolled by Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship. Some will use the Missouri is angry argument for why they could win this game but I don't buy it. Texas proved last weekend that they are legit and at home they won't be stopped.

Prediction: Texas 28, Missouri 20

Mississippi (3-3, 1-2) at #2 Alabama (6-0, 3-0)

This won't be a repeat of what Florida allowed Mississippi to do to them at the Swamp. Alabama has had two weeks to prepare for this game and it will show.

Michigan (2-4, 1-1) at #3 Penn State (7-0, 3-0)

Michigan has always been a thorn in the side for Penn State. However, if Penn State loses at home to a Michigan team that just lost to Toledo (give me a second: bahahahahhahahahahha) then JoePa needs to retire right after the game.

The we are mad and we are going to take it out on our opponent angle won't work for Missouri but it will for Oklahoma.

Ty's Huskies might get their only win against Washington State, but probably not.

I am still not sold on Texas Tech and am slightly tempted to pick the upset here, but can't because the Aggies are atrocious.

This will be closer than the experts think. Oklahoma State will have a bit of a let down but still survive.

If Ball State is ranked then TCU should definitely be ranked. Their only loss came at Oklahoma. They pull of the upset and end BYU's BCS dreams.

#22 Vanderbilt (5-1, 3-1) at #10 Georgia (5-1, 2-1)

Vanderbilt's nice little stay in the Top 25 ends this weekend. They have no offense and not enough defense to win at Georgia.

#12 Ohio State (6-1, 3-0) at #20 Michigan State (6-1, 3-0)

These schools have a few things in common. They have insufferable fans, they have star RBs in Beanie Wells and Javon Ringers, and they both play in the Big Ten. I wish this could just end in a 0-0 tie but college football had to go and adopt overtime. Michigan State starts to collapse this weekend.

Prediction: Ohio State 21, Michigan State 16

#13 LSU (4-1, 2-1) at South Carolina (5-2, 2-2)

LSU was embarrassed in the Swamp and made me happy that I wasn't at home to watch it. The ol ball coach Steve Spurrier was embarrassed by LSU's trickery on a fake field goal last year and is looking for revenge. I think Spurrier has one more big victory left in him.

Colorado State (3-3, 1-1) at #14 Utah (7-0, 3-0)

The Utes will just try to remain focused on their next two games before TCU.

Hawaii surprised me when they beat Fresno State on the road. That got Boise's attention.

Tech has won some tough road games at North Carolina and Nebraska. This team just isn't good enough to do it again.

Al Groh must have done something as the last two weeks Virginia has actually looked like a decent football team. North Carolina lost start WR Brandon Tate for the season, I think the Cavs continue their recent run of success.

I have a cousin who is a freshman at Syracuse so I want to see them do well. However, they might not be good until long after he leaves.

Maryland is another Jekyll and Hyde ACC team. Ralph Friedgen get's his team up for these big games and I think Maryland surprises Wake at home.

Hey look, Pittsburgh is back in the Top 25. That means it's time for them to lose.

The Week That Was

Having a blog and then going on record on that blog and ending up being wrong is not a good thing. I thought the Redskins of 2008 were not going to be the Redskins of years past. I thought like any good team should, they would handle their business in their next 3 cupcake games. One game in and they already have proven me wrong. What is even worse is the players, namely RB Clinton Portis admitted as much afterwards. The Redskins believed the hype and didn't come ready to play against an awful Rams team. Yes, I know the Rams won but the only reason the Redskins almost eked out an undeserving victory was because of how awful the Rams are. I just don't get this team, you were 4-1, you hadn't won anything, as a team you have never proven anything and you went into a game thinking you didn't have to prepare? I'm not sure these group of guys will ever get it.

College football was shaken up as the two marquee Big 12 games produced upsets. The Texas Longhorns are the new #1 team in the country after defeating previous #1 Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout. Oklahoma State shocked Missouri on the road and prevented a possible 1 vs. 2 match up this weekend between Texas and Missouri. In other big games, Florida decimated LSU, as did Penn State at Wisconsin.

Notre Dame blew their game at North Carolina and with it their chance to get back into the Top 25. Watching that game you could tell that Notre Dame was the better team. But much like the Redskins, turnovers killed them, as did plain stupidity. With 5 seconds to go in the game WR Michael Floyd fumbled while trying to make a desperate lateral. Had he just gone down Notre Dame likely could have spiked the ball and had a chance at one last play. He panicked in a pressure situation. To be fair he is a freshman but it hurt to see Notre Dame blow a great opportunity to shut the critics up.

Nebraska gave a much better showing than I expected and nearly shocked Texas Tech. The defense played pretty well, and QB Joe Ganz was having a great game until his interception in overtime sealed the loss. This is a game the Cornhuskers can build off of though and hopefully gain confidence from.

I was out Saturday so I didn't get to see what sounded like a thrilling game 2 in the American League Championship Series between the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays. Rays rookie Evan Longoria continues to produce in the postseason and the Rays got a much needed win. The series shifts to Boston this afternoon.

As for the NLCS the home teams continued to dominate as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Phillies last night to make that a series. Game 4 is tonight.

The Hail Mary - Week 6

I need football Sunday, work has been kicking my butt, as has life. But for 10 hours Sunday I don't have to care about any of that and that is why I love the NFL. A couple good games this weekend, let's get going.

Games That I Will Be Watching

St. Louis (0-4) at Washington (4-1)

People are nervous in the DC area. They keep talking about this being a trap game and how the Redskins can't take the Rams lightly. Honestly, I think things are different this year and Redskins fans have to adjust their thinking. Maybe the Redskins are finally an elite team, the kind of team that wins the tough games and then shows their dominance in the easy ones. I will go on record now as saying the Skins will go 3-0 through this cupcake portion of their schedule.

Prediction: Washington 28, St. Louis 17

Dallas (4-1) at Arizona (3-2)

I already hated the Dallas Cowboys and this year they are making it even easier to hate them. Their head coach Wade Phillips is a buffoon, their star WR Terrell Owens is an emotional wreck and the whole team has a sense of entitlement around them that they haven't earned. You want to be considered elite? Then damn right you are going to get called out for nearly blowing a 17 point lead at home to a lousy Cincinnati Bengals team. All of that being said, the Cardinals aren't on Dallas' level.

Prediction: Dallas 31, Arizona 27

New England (3-1) at San Diego (2-3)

The San Diego Chargers are a hard team to figure out, just when you think they are starting to get back on track they lose to the Dolphins. But all is OK according to RB LaDanian Tomlinson because the Chargers like to lose early so they can see how they need to improve or some BS. LT, instead of being alright with losing how about you start scoring some TDs so I don't feel like I wasted my #1 fantasy draft pick on you. The Patriots finally figured out that I could be throwing the ball and as long as I threw it deep for WR Randy Moss he is likely to come up with it. San Diego plays better when it's desperate, and Patriots QB Matt Cassell will be overwhelmed by the setting.

Prediction: San Diego 21, New England 20

New York Giants (4-0) at Cleveland (1-3)

Unfortunately the NFL's league offices also bought into the unjustified hype for the Cleveland Browns and decided to put them on national TV 5 times. As expected by anyone that wasn't a Cleveland fan the Browns stink and the rest of America will now be forced to watch them stink.

Prediction: New York Giants 31, Cleveland 14

The Rest of Week 6

Baltimore (2-2) at Indianapolis (2-2)

The Indianapolis Colts are insanely lucky to be 2-2 and not 0-4 right now. QB Peyton Manning hasn't been his usual excellent self but even his mediocre self can be good enough to help the Colts win games. Other teams imploding has also helped them. Ravens QB Joe Flacco impressed me in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago but no way the Colts start 0-3 in their new stadium.

Prediction: Indianapolis 21, Baltimore 18

Detroit (0-4) at Minnesota (2-2)

The Minnesota Vikings earned a must win against the New Orleans Saints on Monday night, now the schedule eases up a bit, starting with the dreadful Lions.

Oakland (1-3) at New Orleans (2-3)

Need a victory? No better solution than having the Oakland Raiders come to your building. Maybe they won't kick to Reggie Bush, seemed to be a hard concept for the Vikings to figure out.

Cincinnati (0-5) at New York Jets (2-2)

The AFC East has proven to be much better than people expected and the Jets can't afford a slip up here if they want to stay in the race for the division.

Chicago (3-2) at Atlanta (3-2)

I'm surprised to see both these teams above .500. The Chicago Bears defense is looking like the defense from two years ago, while Atlanta's QB Matt Ryan is proving the skeptics wrong that you shouldn't start a rookie QB. However, I think he will be shell shocked by the Bears defense.

Prediction: Chicago 21, Atlanta 13

Carolina (4-1) at Tampa Bay (3-2)

Carolina has always had trouble in Tampa Bay. I think Tampa's defense will make life miserable for Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme and do enough to earn the victory.

Miami (2-2) at Houston (0-4)

Houston Texans QB Sage Rosenfels was ready to take the starting job from Matt Schaub. Then he decided it would be a good idea with a 10 point lead to do a helicopter spin and then with a 3 point lead to hold the ball out for any defender to take from him. Schaub should start this one, but Ronnie Brown and the "Wildcat" offense bring the Dolphins another win.

Prediction: Miami 20, Houston 17

Jacksonville (2-3) at Denver (4-1)

I still believe in the Jacksonville Jaguars, they are much like the Chargers where they seem to win when their backs are against the wall. Denver is hurting on offense and that will be enough to get the Jags a tough road win.

Philadelphia (2-3) at San Francisco (2-3)

Note to Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb: Please shut up. No one cares if you think you're team is better than everyone, your teams record indicates you aren't. Win games, then talk.

Things are going to start to get ugly in Green Bay after they drop their fourth in a row here.

Cram Session - Week 7

There are three games between ranked teams this week, including the classic Red River Shootout between Texas and Oklahoma. Notre Dame get's a chance to earn its way into the Top 25 as they travel to ranked North Carolina and Nebraska will try to avoid giving up 100 points as they play their first road game of the year against Texas Tech. Oh and one more thing, I not only correctly predicted Vanderbilt would defeat Auburn, I also correctly predicted the final score of 14-13, so yeah, I am a bit of a genius (nevermind those other games I got wrong).

#5 Texas (5-0, 1-0) vs. #1 Oklahoma (5-0, 1-0)

This game has everything any college football fan could want. A huge rivalry, and a game where the winner will not only likely go on to win the Big 12 South, but also keep themselves alive for a national championship. Texas was overlooked heading into this year, and the lack of pressure seems to have served them well. Oklahoma has been unstoppable and the Longhorns won't be able to slow them down.

Prediction: Oklahoma 30, Texas 20

#17 Oklahoma State (5-0, 1-0) at #3 Missouri (5-0, 1-0)

Oklahoma State may stand a chance if they don't spit on Missouri QB Chase Daniel, it makes him angry.

Prediction: Missouri 35, Oklahoma State 14

#4 LSU (4-0, 2-0) at #11 Florida (4-1, 2-1)

This game lost a bit of its luster after Florida's shocking home loss to Ole Miss. I still don't buy into LSU, and I think Florida QB Tim Tebow has a big game to lead the Gators to victory.

#6 Penn State (6-0, 2-0) at Wisconsin (3-2, 0-2)

The wheels are starting to come off for Wisconsin and Madison will be in full panic mode after a loss here.

Nebraska (3-2, 0-1) at #7 Texas Tech (5-0, 1-0)

Texas Tech proved me wrong and won a game on the road that in the past they likely would have lost. Nebraska is in a state of turmoil, the team lacks discipline, my brother's pee wee football team could score 35 on them and to make matters worse they have to go back to Lubbock where they infamously lost 70-21 a few years ago. I don't think Bo will let it get that bad this time but until Nebraska get's any semblance of a defense they will continue to be outmatched.

Prediction: Texas Tech 58, Nebraska 31

Arizona State (2-3, 1-1) at #8 USC (3-1, 1-1)

Both teams starting QB's might miss this one which would give Razorback fans the joy or the misery of seeing former QB Mitch Mustain start for the Trojans. Either way USC is virtually unbeatable at home, as Oregon can attest to.

New Mexico (3-3, 1-1) at #9 BYU (5-0, 1-0)

BYU could really use some competition.

Tennessee was supposed to have a confidence building game against Northern Illinois last week. Instead they just reaffirmed how bad they suck.

I am begging someone from the Big Ten to beat Ohio State so we don't have to be stuck watching them in the National Championship game after they sneak in again.

I am happy to see Vanderbilt's success. As for Mississippi State, their coach Sylvester Croom should start updating his resume.

I thought about picking the upset here but then I remembered that Brett Favre hasn't been the Southern Miss QB for about 20 years.

Kansas had way too much trouble with Iowa State, while Colorado, who was a trendy upset pick over Texas, was flattened at home. Kansas QB Todd Reesing will have a field day on his home turf.

Arkansas (2-3, 0-2) at #20 Auburn (4-2, 2-2)

Not quite sure why Auburn is still ranked as they have lost to the two good teams they played. Luckily for them they play an awful team in Arkansas.

Clemson (3-2, 1-1) at #21 Wake Forest (3-1, 1-0)

One rule about a Tommy Bowden coached Clemson team, they win the games they shouldn't and lose the games they should win. I smell upset, especially since this game will be on upset Thursday.

Notre Dame (4-1) at #22 North Carolina (4-1)

If Notre Dame wins this one and isn't ranked then I would love to hear all the Notre Dame haters blab on and on about how Notre Dame get's unjustified attention and respect. Keep talking about last year haters, win or lose this one, Notre Dame is having a winning season and Charlie is building a consistent winner.

Northwestern is another team that should be ranked. The voters will have no choice after this one.

The Week That Was

Hope everyone had a nice weekend, a lot to get into.

College football calmed down a bit this weekend, only real upsets were South Florida and Fresno State losing at home to unranked teams. Notre Dame improved to 4-1 with a victory over Stanford. They only received 6 votes for the Top 25 which is ridiculous but the national media won't be able to ignore them anymore if they can win at newly ranked North Carolina this weekend.

As I expected Nebraksa lost to Missouri, what I didn't expect was for them to be embarrassed in quite the fashion they were. Bo Pelini has a lot of work ahead of him as apparently Bill Callahan recruited a bunch of scrubs on defense during his time in Nebraska that not even Pelini can make play better. There was some controversy coming from the game based on Missouri QB Chase Daniel's assertion that a Nebraska player spit on him before the game. If true that only adds to the embarrassment that Saturday was for the Cornhuskers.

As for the NFL the rise of the Washington Redskins continued as they were able to win back to back road games in the NFC Beast. The win over Philadelphia was more impressive than the win over Dallas. The Skins were missing 4 starters on defense, trailed 14-0 after a horrible missed call by the referees for block in the back by the Eagles, and despite all of that were able to win. The Skins rushed for over 200 yards, mostly behind Clinton Portis, and Jason Campbell continued to play mistake free football. The fact that the Skins have gone 5 games without an offensive turnover is an amazing accomplishment. The next 3 games should be wins for the Skins but they can't get ahead of themselves as people looked at their last 2 games as sure losses just a few weeks ago.

I made an attempt at predicting the MLB Playoffs and so far have fared miserably. The Cubs choked and were embarrassingly swept by the Dodgers, the Brewers couldn't hit and lost to the Phillies. The AL playoffs have Game 4's tonight as both the White Sox and Angels try to keep their seasons alive. I was sure the Angels would finally get over their Red Sox hex. Last night's victory kept them alive, they will need a strong performance from John Lackey tonight to try to stretch the series to a Game 5.

The Hail Mary - Week 5

An ideal NFL Sunday for me is sitting down at 1 PM, firing up my laptop so I can keep up with my fantasy teams and doing nothing but watch football until 11 PM. I had this type of day last Sunday and it was glorious.

This weekend will not afford me the same luxury, some prior commitments have come up and it will not be a lazy Sunday for me. However, where there is a will there is a way. I will still end up watching almost as much football as I would be if I was being a lazy bum at home.

Games That I Will Be Watching

Washington (3-1) at Philadelphia (2-2)

I will be in DC during this game but thankfully I should be at a bar and able to see this one. This game comes down to one player, Eagles RB Brian Westrbook. If Westbrook plays the Eagles win, if he doesn't the Eagles lose. All indications as of now (Friday) are that he will play. He changes the entire dynamic of the Eagles offense. The Redskins are a good team but it's a little too much to ask of them to win back to back road games in the NFC Beast.

Prediction: Philadelphia 24, Washington 21

Pittsburgh (3-1) at Jacksonville (2-2)

I will be at my girlfriend's soccer game during this one but that is where DVR comes in. As long as I avoid the score while at the game, and in the car on the way home I can watch the game when I get back and finish it in about 1 1/2 hours. This is not the team Pittsburgh needs to be facing after just facing a very physical Baltimore team on Monday night. Pittsburgh is too banged up to win on the road against a quality team.

Prediction: Jacksonville 20, Pittsburgh 13

Minnesota (1-3) at New Orleans (2-2)

Minnesota desperately needs a victory. A 1-4 hole may be too much to climb out of. New Orleans can put up points with the best of them but their defense is questionable. Minnesota will be more desperate for a win and will pull this game out on RB Adrian Peterson's shoulders.

The Rest of Week 5

Chicago (2-2) at Detroit (0-3)

The Matt Millen era is over in Detroit which is great and all, but the team he put together will be on the field the rest of this season so the Lions will continue to blow.

Atlanta (2-2) at Green Bay (2-2)

The big question in this one is whether or not Packers QB Aaron Rodgers will be able to play. I don't think it matters either way, Atlanta is an awful road team.

San Diego (2-2) at Miami (1-2)

There is hope in Miami after the butt whooping they layed on the Patriots. The Chargers will be ready for whatever wacky offense the Dolphins decide to throw at them and earn their third straight win.

Seattle (1-2) at New York Giants (3-0)

I have a hunch that the Seahawks will win this game. I don't know what it is and I could be completely wrong but I think the Giants will come out flat and Seattle will win behind the returning WRs Deion Branch and Bobby Engram.

Kansas City (1-3) at Carolina (3-1)

Carolina's schedule has been ridiculously easy the last couple of weeks.

Prediction: Carolina 28, Kansas City 10

Tennessee (4-0) at Baltimore (2-1)

I expect an upset here. These two teams are very similar, barely adequate offenses mixed with exceptional defenses. Baltimore is a tough team to beat at home, they end the Titans unbeatan string.

Prediction: Baltimore 16, Tennessee 10

Indianapolis (1-2) at Houston (0-3)

The Colts have been struggling to generate a rushing game while Houston has played poor defense and also been the victim of a tough early schedule. Peyton Manning wins in desperate situations.

Prediction: Indianpolis 28, Houston 20

Tampa Bay (3-1) at Denver (3-1)

Buccaneers QB Brian Griese returns to where he started his career. If he continues to throw interceptions the end of his Bucs career will match the end of his Broncos career, clipboard carrier.

Prediction: Denver 27, Tampa Bay 24

Cincinnati (0-4) at Dallas (3-1)

Whether Ryan Fitzpatrick or Carson Palmer starts at QB, I think eveyrone can agree the Cowboys will win, the difference will be by how much. I think Palmer will play.

Prediction: Dallas 35, Cincinnati 17

Buffalo (4-0) at Arizona (2-2)

Buffalo had more trouble with the Rams than they should have. Over the years Arizona seems to be the place where teams on the rise go to prove their stripes and win what should be an easy road game but instead they lose. That will be the case here.

Prediction: Arizona 28, Buffalo 21

New England (2-1) at San Francisco (2-2)

As much I want to pick the 49ers to win this one I think the bye week has given Patriots coach Bill Belichick plenty of time to devise a way to counter Mike Martz' offense and beat down a suspect 49ers defense.

College football became much more interesting last week. Top 25 teams were upset all over the place, the balance of power in the SEC completely shifted, and a new No.1 was crowned. Week 5 showed that not much has changed from last year and that another crazy year should be expected.

Games That Matter to Me That May Not Matter to You

Stanford (3-2) at Notre Dame (3-1)

Notre Dame looked very impressive in the second half last week as they pulled away from Purdue. The offense is starting to gel and the defense is doing a good job of creating turnovers. Stanford has won two in a row, including defeating Ty Willingham's pathetic Washington Huskies team. I think a Notre Dame win here should earn them a place in the Top 25. That is what will happen, a relatively easy victory.

#1 Oklahoma (4-0, 0-0) at Baylor (2-2, 0-0)

USC's shocking loss last week while #1 to an unranked home team may make some people think twice about this one. No need to, QB Sam Bradford will make sure of it.

Prediction: Oklahoma 45, Baylor 17

Kentucky (4-0, 0-0) at #2 Alabama (5-0, 2-0)

Alabama absolutely destroyed Georgia. The final score indicated it was a slightly close game but it was really quite the mismatch. It catapulted the Crimson Tide all the to #2. Kentucky has beaten mostly cupcakes to get to a fraudulent 4-0. Roll Tide.

Prediction: Alabama 27, Kentucky 16

#4 Missouri (4-0, 0-0) at Nebraska (3-1, 0-0)

Nebraska plays its 5th straight home game as the high powered Missouri Tigers come into Lincoln. As I touched on Monday, Nebraska had a very disappointing effort Saturday night against Virginia Tech. The Nebraska defense allowed what had so far in the season been a useless unit, run and pass all over them. The defense has a ways to go and it doesn't get any easier Saturday. Missouri has torched its first four opponents and looks primed to put 50+ on Nebraska's defense. Nebraska's streak of 15 straight home wins against the Tigers will end here.

Prediction: Missouri 50, Nebraska 37

#5 Texas (4-0, 0-0) at Colorado (3-1, 0-0)

This game could surprise some people. Most will be expecting a Texas rout but this game will come right down to the wire. Texas luckily gets out of Boulder with a win.

Prediction: Texas 21, Colorado 20

#6 Penn State (5-0, 1-0) at Purdue (2-2, 0-0)

This is another game I believe will be closer than the experts think...for three quarters. Penn State rolls in the 4th.

Prediction: Penn State 31, Purdue 13

#7 Texas Tech (4-0, 0-0) at Kansas State (3-1, 0-0)

This is where the upset will happen, Manhattan, Kansas. I don't buy Texas Tech, always offense, never defense, can't win when it truly get's tough. Until they prove otherwise to me I will continue to expect them to choke in the face of pressure.

Prediction: Kansas State 38, Texas Tech 34

#8 BYU (4-0) at Utah State (1-3)

BYU is the favorite to be the BCS buster this year and Utah State won't stand in the way of that goal.

Prediction: BYU 51, Utah State 14

#23 Oregon (4-1, 2-0) at #9 USC (2-1, 0-1)

Things don't get any easier for USC this week as Oregon comes to the Coliseum. Oregon has been decimated by injuries at the QB position but they remain undefeated in the Pac-10. Pete Carroll won't allow his Trojans a second straight slip up.

Prediction: USC 27, Oregon 14

Pittsburgh (3-1, 1-0) at #10 South Florida (5-0, 0-0)

South Florida crushed NC State on the road last weekend in impressive fashion while Pittsburgh struggled to defeat an awful Syracuse team. This could get ugly.

Prediction: South Florida 35, Pittsburgh 17

#12 Florida (3-1, 1-1) at Arkansas (2-2, 0-1)

Florida was hit by the upset bug as Ole Miss shocked them at the Swamp. Poor Arkansas, they are going through a brutal stretch of ranked teams and now they catch an angry Gators team.

Prediction: Florida 41, Arkansas 10

#13 Auburn (4-1, 2-1) at #19 Vanderbilt (4-0, 2-0)

They are all giddy in Nashville as ESPN's College GameDay is making its first appearance there. They will be even happier after they defeat Auburn.

#14 Ohio State (4-1, 1-0) at #18 Wisconsin (3-1, 0-1)

I want to pick the upset here and go with Wisconsin but despite Ohio State's struggles outside of the Big Ten, they play their best football inside of the Big Ten. A healthy Beanie means victory.

Prediction: Ohio State 27, Wisconsin 20

#16 Kansas (3-1, 0-0) at Iowa State (2-2, 0-0)

Kansas wins.

Prediction: Kansas 38, Iowa State 21

Western Kentucky (2-3) at #20 Virginia Tech (4-1)

I don't believe Virginia Tech's offense is as good as they showed against Nebraska. It could be downright awful and they would still beat Western Kentucky.

Prediction: Virginia Tech 28, Western Kentucky 7

Texas A & M (2-2, 0-0) at #21 Oklahoma State (4-0, 0-0)

Despite what their insane fans may think, Texas A & M is terrible this year. They won't be winning a national championship (duh), they probably won't even make a bowl.

Prediction: Oklahoma State 35, Texas A & M 16

Hawaii (1-3, 0-1) at #22 Fresno State (3-1, 0-0)

It is last year's WAC darling against this year's WAC darling. June Jones and Colt Brennan won't be walking through the door for Hawaii.

Prediction: Fresno State 38, Hawaii 6

#24 Connecticut (5-0) at North Carolina (3-1)

Connecticut is a team on the rise but they are without their starting QB for the next 6-8 weeks. Butch Davis is beginning to resurrect the Tar Heels and with a win here will likely have the Tar Heels in the Top 25.

Prediction: North Carolina 24, Connecticut 13
